James Tailor selected for the Helen Scott Lidgett Studio Award 2017/18

25.05.2017

James Tailor has been selected for the Helen Scott Lidgett Studio Award by artist and external selector Alison Turnbull.

As part of the Acme Graduate Awards Programme, the award offers one final-year MA student from Central Saint Martins a free studio for one year, a cash bursary, mentoring and the opportunity to work with a partner gallery towards an exhibition or public project.

Speaking about James’ degree show work, Alison said, “James makes complex objects that combine painting and sculpture. Just as he is beginning to realise their potential to connect with the world beyond art school – beyond the studio – he is in the best position to take full advantage of having an Acme studio.”

This award is a partnership initiative between Acme Studios and Central Saint Martins. It is jointly funded by Acme and the Helen Scott Lidgett Fund.

Since 1972, Acme has provided affordable homes, studio space, residencies and awards to fine artists. By providing the space, time, finance and opportunity we aim to promote the development of art and artists’ careers. Our aim is to intervene at critical moments in artistic careers in a manner which centres on meeting a defined need of the artist and thereby supports their professional progress.
