Dominic Dispirito selected for the Adrian Carruthers Studio Award 2017-18

Dominic Dispirito has been selected for the Adrian Carruthers Studio Award by a panel including artist and selector Peter Liversidge.

As part of the Acme Graduate Awards Programme, the award offers one final-year MA student from The Slade School of Fine Art a free studio for one year, a cash bursary, mentoring and the opportunity to work with a partner gallery towards an exhibition or public project.

Speaking about Dominic’s degree show work, Peter Liversidge said “Dominic makes work that is open and engaging on many levels. I was impressed by the installation and his total commitment to the work; he has developed, and is developing, a language which is totally his own. To keep working on the scale and ambition that he currently is, I am 100% sure he will take full advantage and make excellent use of the studio. I'm looking forward to seeing how Dominic and his work develops, and where he will be in 12 months’ time”.

Peter continued “The Adrian Carruthers Studio Award is vital as it gives time and space to an artist at possibly the most difficult stage of their career, the first 12 months post art college”.

Since 1972, Acme has provided affordable homes, studio space, residencies and awards to fine artists. By providing the space, time, finance and opportunity we aim to promote the development of art and artists’ careers. Our aim is to intervene at critical moments in artistic careers in a manner which centres on meeting a defined need of the artist and thereby supports their professional progress.
