Adrian Carruthers Studio Award
Eligibility: Final year MA students at Slade School of Art.
Next programme (2010-2011): A panel will select from this year's graduating students in June 2010.
Information
Established in 2002 for artists graduating from The Slade School of Art, the Adrian Carruthers Studio Award provides a free studio for a year, plus a bursary of £5,000.
The award was created in memory of the artist Adrian Carruthers, who died in October 2001 at the age of 40.
A graduate of The Slade School of Art, Adrian's family, friends and fellow artists have worked together to set up an award in his name, offering practical support to talented artists at the beginning of their careers.
The studio space is at Childers Street, Deptford, SE8, where Adrian worked as an artist. Acme Studios contribute half of the cost of the studio space, as well as supporting the administration of the fund.
Soaring property prices in London and the appropriation of industrial space for residential development has made it harder for artists to find work space at affordable prices.
2009 - 2010: Janne Malmros
The current recipient of the Adrian Carruthers Award is Janne Malmros who completed her MFA in Fine Art Sculpture at Slade School of Art in June 2009. During September and October 2009, Janne had work in the Danish Embassy, UCL, Donlon Books and Nolias Gallery. Janne is currently working in the Adrian Carruthers Studio to prepare for a show that opens on 8 January 2010 in I-myu Projects, EC2A and doing research in the Strang Print Room at UCL. Janne was recently awarded the 'Clifford Chance Purchase Prize 2009' as part of 'Postgraduate Printmaking in London 2009: a survey of London art colleges' at Clifford Chance, 30th Floor Gallery, Canary Wharf which runs until February 2010 (viewing by appointment only).
