Acme Studios, supporting art and artists since 1972

Camberwell Studio Award

Eligibility: Final year BA Fine Art students at Camberwell College of Arts

Next Programme (2012-2013): A panel will select from next year's graduating students in June 2012.

Information

In 2010, Acme Studios began discussions with Camberwell College of Arts about ways of continuing to support graduating artists. From the outset, the college recognised the enormous value of this kind of opportunity and committed support for a 12-month award, covering half the cost of a studio and providing a bursary.

The selected artist shares a large self-contained studio with the recipient of the Chelsea Studio Award. Both these awards are designed for BA fine art graduates and it is hoped that sharing will reduce any sense of isolation which may be experienced away from the college environment and ease the transition from art college to establishing a studio practice.

2011-2012: Josie Cockram

Josie Cockram was selected by Julia Lancaster and Tamiko O’Brien, Associate Dean, Camberwell College for the inaugural Camberwell Studio Award. Josie describes her work as looking 'at the relationship between the digital and the material and asks how an image, or a sound, moves on from being merely a representation of its source'.

Childers Street Graduate Award Studios

The Camberwell Studios Award is one of four graduate awards permanently located in purpose-designed award studios, located at Acme’s Childers Street studios in Deptford. The adjoining spaces naturally promote peer support, as well as professional input from galleries, such as BEARSPACE, and through mentoring and studio visits. These awards have been carefully developed with Acme’s partners to provide a valuable and effective bridge between college and professional practice. Each award provides a rent-free studio for 12 months plus a stipend of £2,500 - £5,000 per year.
