New Developments
Acme Studios is committed to developing new affordable studio projects in response to the huge demand from artists and threats to existing provision elsewhere in London.To support this commitment we were recently awarded £2 million from Arts Council England's Grants for the arts - capital programme towards our long-term plan to develop more affordable, permanent, high-quality and accessible studios for artists.
The first project in this programme, The Galleria Studios in Peckham, SE15, opened in January 2006. This new studio block, designed and built in partnership with Barratt Homes, consists of 50 self-contained studios which form part of a mixed-use development including private and affordable residential apartments. The Galleria Studios were established as a ground-breaking 'planning gain' development in partnership with Barratt and was part-funded with an allocation from our Grants for the arts - capital award.

We have a number of non-residential studio projects currently in development including:
Leven Road, Poplar, London E14
This project has been developed in partnership with Swan Housing Association and will be the first-ever 100% affordable mixed-use scheme to offer both affordable housing and affordable studio space. The project, for which planning was granted in March, will consist of a new four to eight storey building comprising 66 affordable housing units and 21 affordable studios, due for completion in August 2008.

Lesney Matchbox Works, Homerton Road, London E9
Developed in partnership with Telford Homes and Places for People, this major scheme involves the demolition of the existing factory and the redevelopment of the site to provide three blocks ranging in height from between four to fifteen storeys to provide retail, commercial, 50 affordable artists' studios and 220 residential units (40% affordable). The application for planning consent is the subject of a planning enquiry commencing 23 April.
Other permanent schemes have now been secured in the London Borough of Brent (12 studios in Harrow Road) and in Newham (15 studios in Stratford High Street).
We are currently negotiating a further project in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets (150 studios).
