Still from 'Objects' 2014 by Milou van der Maaden.
Milou van der Maaden has been selected for the Adrian Carruthers Award 2014/15 by Heather Deedman (Senior Artists' Liaison Officer, Acme Studios), Caroline Achaintre (external artist) and Slade staff Ed Allington, Susan Collins, Lisa Milroy and Jayne Parker
The work in Milou’s Slade show investigated the relationship between identification, intimacy and the way in which the Dutch colonial violence in Indonesia is recollected and represented. Speaking about her award, Milou explains, "I'm very much looking forward to seeing the studio and of course eventually working in it!" Milou has also been selected for this year's Bloomberg New Contemporaries.
Founded in 2002, the Adrian Carruthers Award is Acme Studios' longest running studio award and is open to Final year MA students at Slade School of Art. The award has provided an excellent model for our subsequent graduate awards, which also provide a bursary, rent-free studio for one-year and professional input through mentoring and studio visits.
