Acme Studios, supporting art and artists since 1972

Zuger Kulturstiftung Landis & Gyr, Switzerland

The Zuger Kulturstiftung Landis & Gyr was founded in 1971 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of (former) Landis & Gyr Ltd. in Switzerland. The Foundation has an International Residencies Programme for artists and cultural critics in London, Berlin, Zug, Budapest and Bucharest.

In 1987 the Foundation established a London-based residency programme with the help of Acme Studios. The programme was ambitious, commencing with the gradual purchase of four houses in Smithy Street, Stepney, E1 and culminating in 1995, with Acme as project managers, in the development of a newly built studio complex on an adjacent site.

Acme acts as the managing agent on behalf of the Foundation, dealing with on-going maintenance in the work/live houses, administration and providing support for the artists during their stay in London.

The partnership between Zuger Kulturstiftung Landis & Gyr and Acme has been a highly productive one: over two hundred visual artists, curators, writers, musicians and composers have benefited from the residency programme.
