Acme, supporting artists since 1972

Acme Project Space

The Acme Project Space ran from June 2009 to December 2015. It provided an opportunity for those artists who are part of our Residency & Awards Programme and our International Residencies Programme with a public space within which to develop projects, show new work and engage in a critical dialogue with a wider audience.

Michelle Ussher takes pleasure in imagining the layer of fiction we need to understand reality and the precipice of madness. Her paintings act as paragraphs in a nebulous fiction inspired by literature, anecdotes, film and other images. Recent exhibitions include: ‘Luciende’ Uplands Gallery, Melbourne 2010, ‘I walk the line’ Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney 2009, ‘Lost & Found: An Archeology of the Present’ TarraWarra Biennial, Victoria 2008, ‘Helovanorak’ Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Perth 2008, ‘Too Near Too Far’ Care/of Contemporary Art Centre, Milan 2007. She was a recipient of the Power Institute studio residency at the Cité des Arts, Paris 2008 and the Australia Council studio residency, London, 2009 and the 2010 Marten Bequest travelling Scholarship.
